George Smitherman - Provincial Health Minister - gsmitherman.mpp@liberal.ola.org
FROM THE OFFICE OF the Minister
Your concerns have indeed been duly noted.
The government is committed to a health care system that is publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable.
On November 21, 2003, the hospital's redevelopment agreement was announced with its chosen partner. The agreement was renegotiated to bring this hospital back into the public system, in line with the government's commitments.
Under the new agreement:
- the new hospital will be publicly owned by the William Osler Health Centre;
- the public is guaranteed full access to its services; and
- the board will direct all work by the contractors.
The government has committed that the project and its agreements will be brought into full public view and the government will ensure that the agreements are open and transparent.
A summary of the Project Agreement is available on the WOHC web site and the detailed Project Agreement is available for public review at WOHC. The ministry is working closely with WOHC and expects work on the project to commence shortly.
The ministry and the government remain committed to a health care system that is publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accessible, and to a procurement process that is transparent, accountable and fair.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts.
Yours very truly,
Doug Murray, Director
Alternative Financing and Procurement
Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care

It is difficult to explain the current status of our hospital without going
into the background and history of this project. I apologize for what will
be a lengthy email, but you are entitled to the full facts.
The former government signed a deal in August of 2003 to build our hospital.
It was to be built under the agreement of a public-private-partnership (P3).
The P3 deal was structured so that the company on ... Read Full Text: Click Here

Received July 28, 2004 from the Office of Dr. Kular
As you know, the issues surrounding the William Osler Health Centre
construction are complicated and have led to delays in construction. My MPP
colleagues from Brampton and I are all working tirelessly to see that
construction begins as soon as possible. Although some progress has been
made, more needs to be done.
The tremendous efforts of the community to bring this project to fruition
are making a difference. Your voices are being heard. Our government is
aware of your concerns. By all of us continuing to work together, we will
see our new hospital become a reality.
As it stands now, the Minister of Health is waiting for the hospital board
and the consortium to work out the final details of the agreement. We have
been given every indication that once a final agreement is reached,
construction will begin shortly thereafter.
I sincerely appreciate your ongoing efforts to bring this issue to the
forefront of our government's agenda. You can be sure that I will continue
to do whatever I can to move this issue forward.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kuldip S. Kular, M.P.P.

Received August 5th, 2004
Dear Constituents,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you involved in supporting the building of a new hospital within Brampton for your concern and efforts in seeing the realization of such a development. Without a doubt, the need for such a new facility is essential, as the numbers of people new to the region continue to grow dramatically, and the need for new equipment and healthcare staff are required simply to help ease the burden on the existing surrounding hospitals.
I raised this matter with the provincial health minister, George Smitherman, last weekend during a private function. He spoke optimistically about his support for seeing this urgent matter quickly resolved. I told him that I also strongly hope to see this issue quickly resolved so that the construction of the new hospital can begin as soon as possible.
For those interested in lending their support to this provincial matter I recommend visiting the website www.bramptonhospitaI.com, which supplies additional information on the issue, while simultaneously helping to get more people involved in an issue that affects all residents within the community.
In appreciation for your contributions I would like to offer both my sincere thanks and best wishes to you in your future endeavours. In addition, I wish to let you know that I look forward to continuing my dedicated service to our riding and community in the future.
Sincerely,
The Honourable Gurbax Singh Malhi, P.C., MP Bramalea-Gore-Malton

Tell A Friend
Any important cause requires action, and there is strength in numbers. A small group of Georgetown residents were able to create quite a stir with the Ontario Ministry of Health, so why can't we. We are not asking you to contribute a large amount of time or money; even a small effort can prove effective. This might be as simple as asking your family, friends and neighbours in Brampton to sign the petition. Not much to ask!
